Back to Clear Skin  [ 5/16/2006 ] [ back ]
. . . Check out Clear Up Skincare (www.clearupskincare.org), a nonprofit organization created by licensed esthetician Debi Byrnes. Her mission is to bring information to teens about how to keep skin cleaner, healthier and happier through basic hygiene. Byrnes' curriculum also helps to build self-confidence while incorporating basic cleansing and care advice including what she calls The Three P's of Pimples: "Never, ever pick, pop or pierce." Byrnes keeps the cirriculum low-tech. One of her best-received pieces of advice to teens: wash your pillowcase. "Teens tend to wear lots of hair product," she explains, "and this builds up as a residue on the pillowcase. This product residue can trigger comedones and inflame acne. Just by changing, washing or even turning the pillowcase inside-out, we begin to see the skin improve."
